Bloodlines not Borderlines (2019)
Australian artist Anthony White comes from Sydney and now lives and works near Paris in Fontainebleau where he has his studio. His work is both exhilarating and reflective and I am thrilled and honored to be working with this exciting talent.
Anthony White’s practice encompasses painting, collage and printmaking through which he explores the intersection of societal issues, both current and historical, and how these relate to the production of contemporary image making. His research-based approach to painting is combined with an awareness of surface and a preoccupation with the engagement of physicality and the found object. White’s recent research has been concerned with the phenomenon of Empires – particularly Rome and its influence on the French Republic – as part of a broader investigation into the ways in which empires construct narratives to promote and propagate ideology.
White has exhibited internationally with solo exhibitions in Sydney, Melbourne, Paris and Hong Kong. His work has been included in over 40 group exhibitions internationally including important group exhibitions in Hong Kong at the Cat Street Gallery, and London at the Royal Academy of Arts Annual Summer Exhibition. His work has also been hung among major art prizes for contemporary landscape painting in Australia including The Paddington Art Prize for Landscape Painting, the Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship and the John Glover Art Prize. In 2007 White was the recipient of the Marten Bequest Travelling Scholarship. He has received international residency programs in Paris, Leipzig, America, and Latvia. His work hangs in numerous private collections in Europe, Australia and the States.
His Ghost series is a group of deeply powerful abstract works painted during the first Covid-19 Pandemic confinement period last year. In them, Anthony expresses the emotional essence of his reactions to the experience through the broad and fluid brushstrokes and the vibrant sweeping colors that jump out of the canvas.
These unique and original works present both the new and the seasoned collector with a wonderful investment opportunity. At this stage in his career Anthony’s work is attractively priced.
Anthony was recently named a finalist for the highly prestigious Glover Prize, which celebrates the legacy of John Glover and aims to stimulate conversation about the meaning and possibilities expressed in the words landscape, painting and Tasmania.
The Mark Rothko Centre in Latvia is mounting a solo exhibition of Anthony’s work in 2022 (January to April).
Please contact Boullier Fine Art to arrange for either a studio visit in Fontainebleau, or in Avenue de New York in Paris.
